Wild Sarsota: Wildlife in Our Neighborhood
Presented by Dr. Katherine Clement of the University of Florida/IFAS

Florida is home to over 4,000 kinds of animals. You won’t see all of these in your backyard, but this talk will cover some of the most common wildlife seen in Sarasota County’s neighborhoods. Learn who your neighbors might be and how to best co-exist with the wildlife around us.  Come take a walk on the wild side with us for Wild Sarasota.

Dr. Katherine Clements is the Ecology and Natural Resources Educator for UF/IFAS Extension and Sustainability Sarasota County. The Ecology and Natural Resources Education Program fosters connections focusing on conservation of our ecosystems, through education about the area’s diverse natural resources for youth and adults. Dr. Katherine coordinates the LIFE program (Learning in Florida’s Environment), a multi-agency, award-winning elementary environmental education program. She is a Florida Master Naturalist Program lead instructor and Past President of its advisory panel. Dr. Katherine serves the Sarasota community by providing educational programs and assistance about wildlife, native and invasive species, minimizing human-wildlife conflicts, biodiversity and health, and promoting the balance of our natural areas’ ecosystems. Dr. Katherine Clements received a BS in environmental studies from SUNY Buffalo, and a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University. After 13 years as a physician, she chose to return to her prior career of environmental interpretation. Dr. Katherine lived with her Park Ranger husband, 2 children, and many animals in a Florida State Park for over 20 years. She is passionate about making a difference in our world through educating about our natural environment. She believes the health of the environment is intricately linked with our own health and well-being. She brings the love of all things natural to her position at UF/IFAS Extension!
